Located only 11 kilometres from Notre-Dame-du-Portage in Kamouraska, the city of Rivière-du-Loup houses the Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent, dedicated to the spreading and conservation of Canadian contemporary art and Quebec ancient photography. Stop at the Parc des Chutes de Rivière-du-Loup where you can admire the spectacular 30 metre-high fall from the two hanging bridges above the river. You can also visit the hydroelectric power plant located on the site.
In the Platin area, the hiking trails offer five circuits spread over 10 kilometres on which you will see a park-garden, a marsh and a patrimonial arboretum orchard composed of several varieties of ancient fruit trees. Visit also the Manoir Seigneurial Fraser, which makes you discover the history of this important family.
If you are interested in boats and legends, go to the Musée des bateaux miniatures et légendes du Bas-Saint-Laurent. In the first exhibition gallery, you will find a permanent exhibition of more than 160 hand-made miniature boats, and in the second gallery, you will find 10 paintings representing the legends related to the cities and villages located between La Pocatière and Matane. In winter, the Christmas Castle will charm you for sure. It is considered one of the most beautiful sites dedicated to Christmas. At the marina of Rivière-du-Loup, the Société Duvetnor is a non-profit company dedicated to the conservation of natural habitats in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. It offers a wide range of tourist products in the following islands and bird sanctuaries: the archipelago of the Îles du Pot à l’Eau-de-Vie and Île aux Lièvres, and the archipelago of the Îles Pèlerins and Île aux Fraises. You will have the chance to hike and go on cruises, observe seabirds, visit historic sites and discover the lighthouses of the St. Lawrence. Sail on the St. Lawrence River on board of the Cavalier des Mers with Croisière AML to observe marine mammals, lighthouses, islands and birds.
