Cacouna

In Cacouna, you can take the two different trails of the patrimonial circuit. The first one will lead you in the heart of the village where you can admire religious buildings, general stores, schools, hotels and houses owned by important people. Along the second trail, you will see the Anglican Church, the most simple yet daring villas as well as the Parc de la Fontaine Claire, located along the river. On the Main street, there is a miniature village, a collection of small home-made houses representing the village’s nice ancestral houses.

To learn a little bit more about the Malécites, a nomadic population that has lived in the region for centuries, visit the Maison Denis-Launière. On the site, the café-bistro Matuwesh offers amerindian cooking that will surely charm you. Bird watchers will be happy at the Site ornithologique du Marais de Gros-Cacouna, for it is one of the best places to observe water birds like ducks, rails, heron, and many others. Towers and trails will also allow you to observe the marsh and its inhabitants.
