Trois-Pistoles is the most important city in the municipality of Les Basques. Among other things, you will find here La Fromagerie des basques, a cheese factory that produces several kinds of home-made cheese, maple products, bread, pastries and salt-water herbs. You can also visit the Musée Saint-Laurent, the most important museum of its kind in the Lévis/Gaspé axis. In this museum, you will find ancient cars, farm equipments and various antiquities. Some of the cars from the collection have already been used for the shooting of some movies.
You don’t want to miss the Parc de l’aventure basque en Amérique, which is an interactive interpretation centre related to the arrival of the Basque people on the St. Lawrence River in 1584. In the Lamina cave, you will discover this population considered as the first visitors of the region. You will also get the chance to participate in a big fest organised in mid-July. Outdoor lovers can go to Île aux Basques, which is an important historic site located 5 kilometres off the coast and that welcomes migratory birds. Two kilometres of trails are available on the island to make you discover the attractions.
From the marina in Trois-Pistoles, you can go on cruises and watch whales from a zodiac. The Quebec TV series Bouscotte and l’Héritage were shot in Trois-Pistoles, and it is possible to get itineraries and maps at the tourist information office to easily find the familiar landscapes and shooting places. This can be a fun way to discover the region. Winter in Trois-Pistoles is also a lot of fun! The Mont Saint-Mathieu and its trees, the quality of its slopes, its artificial snow and its activities will please all skiers and snowboarders.
